Diana Mounter is the Former Head of Design at GitHub, where she spent nearly nine years shaping one of the most beloved tools in software development. From turning Primer into a full-fledged design system to leading the launch of Dark Mode at GitHub’s 2020 conference, Diana was behind some of the company’s most iconic design moments.

Her journey started in a print shop in the UK, took her across the world to Australia, and eventually led her to GitHub, the product she personally loved the most. Along the way, she discovered that design isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about meeting the moment, working side by side with engineers, and solving real customer problems.

In this conversation, Diana shares what it means to design in the age of AI, why embracing change is the most important skill in tech, and how constraints in design systems can actually fuel creativity.

Whether you’re a designer, founder, or engineer, her story is a masterclass in building products that people love.
